The 50th Day

The Feast of first fruits would not be called a feast of weeks

My resent post,

was blocked from viewing by anyone other than myself by Facebook, who claim it violated their community guidelines without specifying in what way it did so. I had suspected for a while they were blocking access to certain of my postings without actually preventing me from posting at all, thereby giving the illusion that they were being open and liberal. That they would block this simple article says volumes about the mental state of the administrators of the site and their apparent intentions to eliminate free speech when it comes to any message that even remotely touches on a subject they deem Jewish, even the mere asking of a question that only presents the possibility of another way of interpreting some Hebrew words.

Well, today— the day that is celebrated as Shavuot/שבועות in Israel— I received the following video:

The gentleman states that today is Shavuot (which is Hebrew), and then goes on to say that means Pentecost, which is Greek, not English! This Greek word means “THE 50TH DAY”, and he goes on to explain what that means. The Feast called Shavuot in Israel, is called the 50th day in Greek, but if the Greek was taken from the original Hebrew why didn’t they use the Greek word for weeks, since this is what is commonly used as the English translation? Because it makes no sense to call the day itself weeks!!!

He points to this day representing the giving of the law at Mt. Sinai to the Israelites, and that they there entered into a covenant with God. Knowing this, it makes more sense to refer to the day as the alternative translation of Shavuot/שבוכות as oaths/vows, because this is what actually happened; oaths and vows were given that were later broken by the Israelites.
